Editor’s Note—November 2019

The month of November leaves us with much to be thankful for. The November issue of Cleaner Times has a couple of articles that point us to additional reasons for expressing our gratitude.

First is the article “Honoring Veterans” on page 6. November 11 is Veterans Day. Diane Calabrese had the privilege to speak to five members of our industry who served in various branches of our country’s armed forces, and she talked to them about how their military service better prepared them for their roles in the industry. It is a great read to see the lessons these men learned and how those lessons and life experience have transferred over to the pressure washing industry. Cleaner Times is thankful for their service and for their participation in our industry, and we say “thank you” to them and to the many others who are not mentioned in this article but who have served our country and safeguarded the freedoms we enjoy.

Beth Borrego shares a wonderful story on page 12 in her article, “It Was More Than Just a ‘Deck.’” She says at the beginning of the article, “Being a small business owner has its rewards and its heartaches. Occasionally, they are one and the same.” She regales us with an opportunity Everett Abrams with Deck Restoration Plus in NJ had to give back to a long-time client. The client was dying of brain cancer, and one of his last wishes was to “have Everett restore my deck before I die.” Due to the long-standing relationship as detailed in the article, Everett was pleased to carry out this request.

Other articles in this issue cover important steps to sell heaters, what a distributor wants in a manufacturer, the fun side of taxes, and holiday traditions.

It was great to see many of you at last month’s PowerClean in Charleston, and we hope to see several of you this month in New Orleans at WJTA’s Annual Convention and Expo.
