A Passion For Learning

by Michael Hamline, Editor / Published March 2014

The 20th century Irish poet, W.B. Yeats, has been attributed as saying, “Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.” I should mention that there is disagreement on whether this quote really came from the pen of Yeats. Regardless of its origin, this quote does express an important idea.  The purpose of education is not to simply fill our heads with a bunch of facts and trivia but to use education as the spark that causes us to pursue and explore ideas and avenues that branch out from our education.

You are probably asking yourself, “What does this have to do with reading Cleaner Times | IWA?” As a publication devoted to the pressure washing industry—contractors, distributors, end users, and manufacturers—it is our desire that the articles in each of our issues will cause plans and ideas to be sparked that lead to a lifelong passion for serving in the pressure washing industry.

For example, read the article by Adia Walker on Bozeman Distributors on page 12, and let it serve as a catalyst to serve your customers with excellence. This article shows the importance of listening to your customers and understanding their needs as does the article by Beth Borrego entitled  “Managing Your Sales Leads.” Furthermore, Diane Calabrese’s article, “Cleaning Shopping Centers,” can provide a spark for some to get involved in a new line of cleaning, as well as eagerly pursuing even better ways to clean these facilities.

The aforementioned articles are a sampling of what is contained in this March issue. I would encourage you to engage with these articles and allow them to start a fire within you that will ignite a passion for learning the industry in which you serve. As always, I would love to hear from you concerning stories, topics, and article ideas that you feel would be beneficial for others, so please e-mail me at Michael@adpub.com.
