Frequently Asked Questions: What kind of paint do you use? Double J Lawn Painting, only uses a highly concentrated water-based paint, dye. It is non-flammable and non-toxic. Our product is very durable and will not wash away once dry(1-1½ hours). Once it is applied on your grass,it gives a lush healthy green look. It is water proof, wear resistance and will last for months (2-3) or until grass starts to grow and is mowed. Does it have any fertilizer in it? It is just paint, an eco-friendly water and dye combination that will paint your grass a lush green. When used in the fall/winter, our paint will act as a protective barrier for the lawn, warming it throughout the cold months. This protects the roots, and has the grass prepared to green up faster than normal in the spring. So there are no fertilizers in our product. Will it hurt my kids or pets? NO, there are no chemicals in the paint that we use, it is and non-toxic, so it is 100% completely safe for your kids, pets, and any other living thing your lawn comes into contact with and for the lawn itself. You'll never have to be concerned about polluting the air, soil, or groundwater. Does it wash away with rain? There is no green run-off with the rain; once it is dry the dye is permanent. Eventually, since it is only a dye, it will fade with whatever types of conditions occur and how often. Will painting my grass save me money with my water bill? YES, After Double J Lawn Painting applies our grass paint/dye, you can conserve water use by reducing your lawn watering by at least 20%-50%. How long will it last? It is a very strong paint/dye. It dries to a very durable film. It is waterproof. It does not fade or wash away from the grass surface. It will tend to disappear as the grass grows and/or is mowed (2-3 months). Will it kill the grass? NO. The reason you are applying is because the grass is dead or stressed. Our product will not adversely affect the grass anymore than the trouble it is now. It will not prevent the grass from growing back on its own. Will it come off on my shoes? NO. After the paint/dye mixture has dried (1-1½ hours), the green colorant will not get on clothing, shoes, skin, or pets. Is the over spray harmful to other plants? NO. The over spray is not harmful to other plants, humans or pets. Can you spray a lawn that is mainly dirt or has large dirt patches? Yes you can, however, it is not recommended for dirt. When we spray a lawn it is recommended that the lawn be grass, it has a better visual effect with brown or dead grass than with dirt. When is the best time to have the grass painted? The best time having your grass painted is when the grass has stopped growing. It doesn't have to turn completely brown and of course if it's dead, like vacant homes and properties, we can do it anytime of the year. For the best results, it should be freshly mowed and edged with the clippings removed. (Painting loose grass clippings can blow away and might leave a patchy finish to the grass) The grass should not be scalped. The paint does not cover (stems) or bare dirt very well .

Should new wood be treated for mildew? In climates where its warm and humid for any length of time (like the southeast), then yes. If new wood has begun to show signs of aging (graying off) in other areas, its wise to treat for latent mildew spores.
Can mildew form on the interior of homes and buildings?Yes! Areas of high nutrients and humidity include kitchens, baths and basements. These are areas of high humidity and oftentimes low air circulation which are ideal for the growth of mildew. Use the same chlorine and water solution to remove interior staining and then let dry before painting. What paint is recommended for painting mildewed areas? After the surface is completely clean and free of algae and mildew, use a mildew resistant paint formulated for your area of the country. It will be formulated with the optimal amount of mildewcides and fungicides for your area, there is no need to add additional mildewcides. If the area is prone to mildew, what's the best way to keep it from forming?Even under the best of conditions and after using a mildew resistant paint, it is a good idea to pressure wash the exterior with a chlorine solution every other year. This will keep the painted surfaces looking fresh for the life of the paint. Why is routine house cleaning recommended?Keeping soil, dirt and mildew from permanently staining a house or building will increase the life from two to five years. How long should the paint last? That's a good question, but not necessarily the right one. Perhaps the more correct questions is: "How long will paint look good?" These are two very different issues. Top of the line exterior paints can last in excess of 10 to 15 years depending on location and weathering conditions. But the real issue is how good will the building look over time?
What's the best way to keep the exterior of buildings looking good? The normal oxidation and aging of paint will enable dirt to stick to the paint, especially on surfaces like rough-sawn siding or stucco. It is this dirtying and aging process that can make a paint film appear to be worn when, in fact, there are many more years of life to it. The ultimate answer to extending paint life is to give the building an occasional bath. We recommend pressure washing with mo more than 1500 PSI of water and a small amount of chlorine (a cup per gallon of water) to kill surface mildew, mold and fungus every other year. There is no need to "blast" the surface, just wash it with more pressure than a garden hose provides to knock off the surface dirt, cobwebs, insect nests and other airborne pollutants.
It stands to reason that you wouldn't leave a new car in a driveway for 4, 5 or 6 years without washing it. So it is with a home or building. The regular pressure cleaning and chlorination of the building can extend the good appearance of the job up to 50%. Remember, any balcony or roof run down, and other contaminants that discolor or disfigure the paint is not a defect in the paint system, but is a natural occurrence that can be removed with occasional cleaning and maintenance.

Mildew, Algae & Cleaning
Mildew and algae are airborne living organisms which can blemish the appearance of almost any building material . . . and especially paint.Mildew and algae growth is sporadic and inconsistent. Out of ten homes prepared and painted the same way with the same paints, nine may look beautiful for many years while one may develop mildew or algae contamination, or both. To give you the best chance of avoiding mildew and algae contamination, we want you to understand what it is and what preparation is needed to resist its growth. What's the difference between mildew and algae?Mildew is a fungus, whereas algae is a plant. Mildew is identifiable as a blackish gray stain that appears like dirt, but doesn't come off with detergent. Algae is typically green, black or orange, which also does not remove with detergent.
How do they grow?Mildew and algae arrive as airborne particles landing on solid surfaces. Both mildew and algae need three things to grow: warmth, moisture and nutrients (food). Although Florida is known for its warm and humid climate, almost every state has a period of warmth and high humidity. Nutrients come in many forms. Paint often contains oil modifiers or other additives that provide food sources to the spores. Even new lumber from the mill may have become wet while stored and can be an excellent source of mildew nutrients as the cellulose that makes up the wood fiber is very digestible to the spores.
